Introduction of DLA Nepal

Established with the objective of establishing an independent and capable judicial system, organizing legal practitioners against autocratic and dictatorial ideologies, and continuously striving for the establishment of legal governance and democratic system, this organization was founded on December 19, 1990. Registered at the District Administration Office, Kathmandu, this organization has been working as a representative organization of legal practitioners committed to the principles of nationality, democracy, socialism, human rights, rule of law, and social justice.

Nepal Democratic Lawyers Association (DLA Nepal) primarily operates as a non-profit, public-interest-oriented social organization. This organization remains actively engaged in the protection and promotion of human rights, development of democratic culture, establishment, protection, and promotion of legal governance, implementation of national laws related to human rights, international treaties and agreements, and the United Nations declarations. Additionally, it actively participates and collaborates with various national and international organizations and bodies related to law, human rights, and social justice to extend relations, cooperation, and friendship, aiming to fulfill various objectives.

The organization also conducts studies and research on various aspects of law, maintains records, and publishes various journals containing articles. Moreover, it provides necessary support to the Nepal Bar Association on issues concerning the rights and privileges of legal practitioners, professional security, as well as democracy, independent judiciary, human rights, press freedom, and other related matters. It remains particularly active in organizing various discussions, programs, and workshops on issues related to democracy, rule of law, constitutional supremacy, socialist modern market economy policy, and engages in policy discussions and legal actions on matters of public concern. Its objective includes providing support to newly established and young legal practitioners through various programs.
